There isn’t anything better than biting into a juicy watermelon slice on a hot summer day.  The taste is so delicious and refreshing! Not only is it hydrating and naturally sweet, studies have shown that there are real health benefits to eating watermelon. We’ve combined our cacao infused gin from the indi chocolate Cardamom and Ginger infusion kit (link) with our love for watermelon to create a real summertime treat. Our Molé Melon Cooler is healthy, refreshing and the perfect recipe for celebrating the sunny season!


We’ve already shared with you what studies have shown about the benefits of chocolate, here is their list of the benefits of watermelon.


  1. Skin & Hair

Studies show that watermelon contains plenty of both Vitamins A & C, which are great for your hair and skin. They both facilitate healthy growth of collagen. Vitamin A also helps to moisturize hair and skin keeping them smooth and refreshed.

Studies have shown that watermelon contains a lot of fiber which is great for the digestive tract.

Watermelons are very appropriately named as they are made up of about 92 percent water! Snacking on watermelon is not only yummy but will help keep you hydrated.

Lycopene is the chemical compound that gives the color to many red fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, papayas and watermelon! Studies show that lycopene is known to have anti-inflammatory properties which helps with overall general health. It’s an antioxidant that also helps in the protection and repairing of injuries and diseases in the body.

Lycopene also has the ability to protect cells from damage and may help reduce the risk of heart disease. A study done by the American Journal of Hypertension found that the properties of watermelon helped reduce hypertension and lower blood pressure in obese adults.

Molé Melon Cooler


Ingredients (Yield 2 drinks)

  • 2 cups Watermelon juice
  • 6 Mint leaves
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 3 oz Cardamom Ginger Cacao Infused gin
  • indi chocolate Molé Spice Rub and salt for rim
  • *optional* add a splash of cacao juice 

Instructions

  1. Add watermelon to food processor to equal 2 cups of juice.
  2. Add mint and lime juice.
  3. Puree until smooth.
  4. Strain liquid through a fine mesh strainer to separate the chunks and seeds from the juice.
  5. Prep your glass by rubbing a lime across the rim to get the spices to stick.
  6. On a plate, mix the indi chocolate Molé Spice Rub and salt.
  7. Place the rim of the glass in the spice mix and coat evenly.
  8. Get your large ice cubes ready and place into the glass.
  9. Pour in 1.5 oz of gin per glass.
  10. Pour the juice over the gin.
  11. Top with cacao juice, if you have it.
  12. Garnish with mint leaves.
